Bare Game Boards
I spent a major part of last summer making
these games. These games are designed to help students practice new
vocabulary, spelling patterns and comprehension in a new way. Second
graders seem to love board games and these games have definitely become one
of their most favorite independent activities during Language Arts time.
A higher percentage of students passed
their mid year High Frequency vocabulary test this year and nearly half of
my class has graduated to the Challenge Spelling word list. I think the
extra practice as they played the games was a contributing factor.
As a secondary benefit I have noticed more
cooperative learning. The more capable readers help the slower
readers. Problem solving occurs as rules are discussed and disagreements
are settled.
Thanks so much for supporting this
project!
